Some help with breathing
by Barry Spendlove
We can all breath deeply when we are focussed on it,
but as soon as our attention moves away, we revert back to our usual brathing patterns.
Our breathing gets shallow and we start thinking about the past, the future and our problems.
So the problem is how to keep our deep, smiling, breathing practice going for more and more of the day?
Yes, we need constant reminding!
The best advice I can give you on the start of your ‘mastery of breath’,
at the beginning of your journey to health,
is to
purchase a small book of post it notes.
Cut off the plain paper leaving the sticky part and write ‘Breath Deeply’ on the first piece,
peel it off and stick it where you can see it clearly when you are washing up.
Write ‘Breathe and Smile’ on the second piece,
stick it on the washing up liquid dispenser.
On the 3rd post it note write ‘Smile, Relax, Breathe Deeply’
put this one where you can see it while you clean your teeth.
On the 4th piece write ‘Sink your focus into the Belly and Breathe’
put it on the vacuum cleaner plug.
Getting the idea now?
Be creative put them all over the house and car.
In some private places where you spend time alone you can write messages to your self that are longer and may need 2 or 3 strips.
Messages like ‘breathe deeply into the belly smile, relax, feel still and calm’
or ‘sink your awareness into the belly, smile, relax, find the vitality deep within, be.’
Maybe put ‘I am twice as good as I think I am.'
'I am twice as beautiful as I think I am.'
Some of the notes can be cut into small squares and can just contain a 'B' these can go in many places
and on many things it doesn’t matter who sees them.
No one will know what they mean.
Eventually some one will mention it and you can tell them,
by then you should be feeling the benefit and can share your success.
Someone else may pick up the habit.
Here are a list of places for the notes, Watering Can, Gardening Tool Handles, Lawn Mower, TV Remote Control.
Mirrors, Food Containers, Washing Powder, Kitchen Gloves inside the cutlery draw, on your bookmarks.
I am sure you can think of even better places.
The computer is a treasure trove of possible places for a 'B'.
Any document, your diary, all the places you go to often. A simple 'B', or 'Breathe',
or a more extended personal affirmation to remind your self that you are in the present moment,
that you are feeling good and how much you are loved and to remind you of the good things in your life.
